In a far away land (Geneva) not so many years ago, EdgePetrol’s CEO Gideon Carroll was a gasoline trader at an independent oil trader named Trafigura.
If you ever have the pleasure of meeting Gideon, you will find out that he is rather...inquisitive.
He was (and still is) obsessed with his customers. He wanted to know everything about them, including how they priced the gasoline he sold them at the station level.
What he found out shocked him. Old and inaccurate data was spread across multiple spreadsheets and back office systems. “Surely this is not the norm?” thought Gideon, and he set off back to the UK to find out.
Meeting with independents, oil companies and supermarkets, Gideon found the same story over and over again. Not only were station owners and operators using ‘after the fact’ information to make decisions that had a huge impact on their profits, but they often faced reducing volumes, market consolidation and aggressive competition in their markets. This is when Gideon decided to launch EdgePetrol.
